Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayad, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, delivered the first Friday sermon at the Grand Mosque of Egypt within the Islamic Cultural Center in the New Administrative Capital, following its recent integration under the Ministry of Endowments for religious and academic purposes.
Dr. Ayyad emphasized that Islam is a comprehensive religion dedicated to the welfare of humanity through its higher objectives, which safeguard life, intellect, faith, wealth, and honor. He underscored the grave danger of excommunication (takfir), identifying it as a hallmark of extremist ideologies and a significant obstacle to the nation’s progress. He stressed that declaring someone a disbeliever requires indisputable evidence, in accordance with Al-Azhar’s principles.
Supporting his message with Quranic verses and prophetic traditions, the Grand Mufti emphasized unity and the collective responsibility to build individuals and nations.
The sermon was attended by senior officials, ministers, and prominent religious leaders.
